Flat Roofing

We offer longer lasting flat roofing solutions

The problem with most flat roofs is that they only have a relatively short lifespan of around 10 to 15 years. That because most flat roofs are covered in roofing felt strips applied with hot bitumen. As the temperatures rise and fall, often below freezing, the felt strips expand and contract leading to the seals between the strips eventually failing and allowing water to seep through the roof. With water often puddling on flat roof surfaces, that can compound the problem. But Cheshire flat roof specialists Admiral Roofing Limited offer longer lasting flat roof solutions incuding EPDM rubber and GRP fibreglass roofing. Both these materials are highly water resistent and have a lifespan of up to 50 years or more. That’s because there are no seals to pull apart and, in the case of rubber, the material is flexible so it can cope with expansion and contraction in different temperatures.

About EPDM rubber roofing

EPDM stands for Ethylene Propylene Diene Terpolymer, a synthetic form of rubber that is lightweight but durable and is highly water resistant. Because there are no seals, unlike traditional felt roofing, a rubber roof has a far longer lifespan of up to 50 years. However, it’s important that your rubber roof is professionally installed using quality materials. We use Firestone RubberCover EPDM which is a high-performance roofing system for residential flat roofs up to 150 m².

About GRP fibreglass roofing

Fibreglass is commonly used on the hulls of boats because it is highly water resistant. No wonder then that it also makes an excellent material for flat roofs too! GRP stands for Glass Reinforced Plastic which is very strong, but also very light and because, unlike traditional roofing felt, it has no seals, which means it has a lifespan of 50 year or more provided it is professionally installed. What’s more, GRP fibreglass can be walked although the correct grade of fibreglass should be installed for this purpose.

About hot bitumen-applied felt roofing

The main advantage of traditional felt roofing is that it is a relatively cheap way to cover a flat roof although taken over its lifespan of around 10 to 15 years, it’s not as cost-effective as rubber or fibreglass roofing. Nevertheless, properly installed, felt is a good material but, like all flat roofing, should be professionally installed by a flat roof specialist like Admiral Roofing Limited to ensure maximum performance.
